Aksharanjali 2009
Aksharanjali was the first calligraphy exhibition organised by Aksharaya in honor of Late Prof. R. K. Joshi. This exhibit was held at the ‘Directotate of Art Gallery’ in Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Arts. This event saw a generous participation of many calligraphers Prof. Santosh Kshirsagar, Prof. Shubhanand Jog, Achyut Palav, Vikram Gaikwad, Kedar Malegaonkar, Priti Sagvekar, Sarang Kulkarni, Noopur Datye, Kalpesh Gosavi were present among the others. Events such as talks, discussions and a poetry reading were also a part of this exhibition.

Letterforms from ten Indian scripts were painted on, on 3 ft. by 70 ft. long scrolls, in a challenging fifteen-minute period. This in-campus event called the ‘Happening’ was conceptualised by Santosh Kshirsagar and organised by the calligraphy and typography students of Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Arts to demonstrate the diverse letterforms of all Indian languages. This event marked the beginning of this exhibition.

\ A poetry reading session by Santosh Kshirsagar, where he simplistically put forward his thoughts and ideas about scripts and letterforms. An 8 ft. by 24 ft. hand painted canvas proved an ideal backdrop as the artist recited his writings.
